About

The Studio

Located in New York City, Labo Design Studio designs residential, commercial and retail projects in the US and abroad, with a distinct architectural style, and a rigorous approach to design & construction.

We believe in creating intelligent and responsive design. Through a fundamental inquiry process that seeks to identify and solve architectural challenges, our design language is inspired by a set of emotional alchemies made of unexpected choices and inventions.

Specialized materials and intelligent research result in highly sophisticated, unique creations that forge a particular atmosphere for every client. Warm, sumptuous, and contemporary interiors, with living spaces enriched by singular details, characterize residential work. Retail projects are characterized by leading edge materials, new building techniques and challenging exchanges with artists.

Raffaella Bortoluzzi

Principal Architect and Founder of Labo Design Studio, Bortoluzzi approaches architecture as research and as narrative – a constant joining of episodes in a dialectical way. Signatures of Bortoluzzi’s work are carefully considered materials and forms that add poetic (and sometimes surreal) dimensions to a project, and moments where disparate objects live together harmoniously.

Born in Venice, she obtained her Bachelor in Architecture at Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Italy (IUAV) and her Master of Science in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in New York. After positions with Gluckman Mayner Architects and Rafael Viñoly, she established Labo Design Studio in 2001.
